Of One Accord Ministry began in 1988 to bring a community effort (especially churches) to identify and meet local needs while showing hope through the love of Jesus Christ. Of One Accord serves the Appalachian Mountains and low income counties of Hawkins and Hancock in East Tennessee. Hancock is the lowest income county of Tennessee and the 27th lowest in the US. Average income for clients is below $600 monthly. There is no industry base, no United Way, no Red Cross; they are the emergency organization. Of One Accord is an example that God is still at work and miracles still happen. With just two fishes and a few loaves, Jesus fed 5,000. They see miracles of this type regularly. They operate: 3 Emergency Food Pantries 2 Thrift Stores 1 Free Medical Clinic

Of One Accord operates three food pantries serving all of Hawkins and Hancock Counties.  26,029 people were served in 2008.  This would include upwards to 1/3 of Hancock County which is unemployed.  This was their first program begun in 1988.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee is a 501 c3 non-profit organization and a member of the Feeding America network of Food Banks. The mission is to feed the hungry by securing and distributing food and grocery products through non-profit agencies and food bank programs that provide services to the needy in an eight-county region of Northeast Tennessee.

They operate the following programs: * Kids Cafe: The Kids Cafe program was implemented by Second Harvest Food Bank in 1999 in an effort to provide underprivileged children with a nutritious snack or meal at various after school programs in their rural area of Appalachia. * Food for Kids BackPack Program: This collaborative effort between Second Harvest and area schools identifies and reaches needy children who may have little or nothing to eat during the weekend. These children are given nutritious food in individual serving sizes that they can take home and eat. * Second Helpings Food Rescue Program: They partner with local restaurants, caterers, grocery stores, hospitals, hotels and schools to utilize prepared and perishable foods that would otherwise be thrown away. The rescued food is distributed to agencies providing on-site meals to hungry children and families. Two million pounds of food have been rescued through this program. * Mobile Food Bank: Many rural agencies lack sufficient funding or manpower to transport food and grocery items from the Second Harvest warehouse to their agencies. * Mobile Food Pantry: This program provides a mass distribution of food to low-income households at risk for hunger. Second Harvest distributes bags of groceries to public housing residents in various communities on a rotating basis. 25,000 people each month benefit from food provided by Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee and its 200 partners.
