Any startling piece of work has a subversive element in it, a delicious element often. Subversion is only disagreeable when it manifests in political or social activity. In what we call art, it's one of the most desirable characteristics of a piece of work.

Why does a virtuous man take delight in the landscapes? Because the din of the dusty world and the locked-in-ness of human habitations are what human nature habitually abhors; while on the contrary, haze, mist, and the haunting spirits of the mountains are what human nature seeks, and yet can rarely find.

In 2011, University of California, Irvine’s (UCI) Nursing Science Program will join this partnership operating the Wellness Center as Orange County’s first nurse-managed. This new model is an innovative approach to expanding the services currently offered at the Wellness Center while providing both undergraduate and graduate students of the UCI nurse practitioner program hands-on experience and education.   Additionally in 2011 , in partnership with Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County (Healthy Smiles) the SOS School-Based Comprehensive Oral Health Services (SBCOHS) project was implemented to create a permanent ‘dental home’ that encompasses prevention services, restorations/extractions, oral health and nutritional education, care coordination and direct linkage to specialty dental care; the vision is to broaden school-based pediatric health services to encompass integrated, comprehensive dental care for children and their families.  Santa Ana is a key Medically Underserved Area (MUA) in Orange County, with approximately one primary care physician per 6,613 residents and one dentist per 3,807 residents.  The project will serve children 0-13 years of age, including siblings, and will incorporate culturally-competent care coordination, including Denti-Cal enrollment, case management and counseling, patient tracking and recall, and service integration with the physical health services at the SOS/El Sol Wellness Center. SOS and its partners aim to produce a replicable model for a) oral health service delivery in a school-based clinic setting, b) primary care and dental care integration, and c) facilitating long-term normative change in the perspective and health habits of underserved families in one of their nation’s most high-need regions.
