Services: The agency provides financial assistance for very low-income people living with AIDS, and who are unable to work because of the HIV disease, in Los Angeles County. Services include food vouchers, gas service payment assistance, moving expense assistance, and rent payment assistance. Geographic restrictions vary from program to program.
AFA financial grants are intended to provide limited help supplementing existing income or provide assistance while waiting for government assistance. Expenses such as move-in expenses, rent, food vouchers, transportation and utility bills may be covered. In addition, free vitamins are provided through participating pharmacies.
All programs require documentation, and grant amounts vary per program. Housing and utility bill grants are paid directly to the landlords/mortgage holders and utility companies.
The Keep It Fresh food voucher program provides food vouchers. Eligible individuals may receive up to $60 of groceries (Family units may vary) once a month for either 6 months or 1 year in duration. Currently, there is a waiting list that lasts about 6 months to 1 year.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 10:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
