Services: Helps a homeless or near homeless family/individual to: stop eviction from your home/apartment or foreclosure of your house; find a long-term place to live; find a short-term place to stay. A one-time payment up to $400 to prevent eviction or $100-$300 to obtain temporary or permanent shelter. There is no monthly rental assistance or subsidy available. Need must be the result of an emergency such as eviction, living in hazardous conditions, homeless or near homeless. If more funds are owed than CAO can offer are required to prevent or resolve the emergency, the applicant must have another way to pay the remainder due. The individual or family must have sufficient income to afford future rent. Items are verified with landlord/employer, etc.

Services provided to disadvantaged elderly individuals include legal problems such as SSA, SSI, and Medicare, landlord problems, utility turn-offs, nursing home problems and assisted living. Will refer to other resources if cannot assist client. Will also provide mortgage foreclosure counseling and representation.

Eligibility: Limited income persons up to age 59. Senior citizens, ages 60 and older, have no income limitations.

SERVICES:1) CRISIS SITUATION: Assists eligible families who are experiencing crisis situations, including homelessness(must pass a drug test), utility turn-offs, evictions, natural disasters (i.e., fires, floods), security deposits, and/or dire need for prescription medication (can be individuals). Also can assist persons stranded away from home or a job. Those families seeking financial assistance will be referred to the Community Action Agency.Can only be used once in a 24 month period. For eligible families who are experiencing crisis situations they will be referred to their local community action agency. DSS will assist if emergency medication is needed and funds are available.,

Call every Mon starting at 8:30AM to schedule an appointment, if possible. Appointments are scheduled on Tues. 3) TAX ASSISTANCE 2012: CLOSEDOffers assistance to seniors, people with disabilities and other low to moderate income taxpayers. Appointments available 2/1-4/15, Mon, 8:30AM-12:30PM. Electronic filing is available. Individuals are eligible for assistance once a year and there are no income guidelines. - - 2) FOOD PANTRY: Provides one bag of non-perishable emergency food, once every 30 days. Call for assistance and to ensure service. - - 3) FAMILY FOOD: Offers perishable and non-perishable food to those in need. Targets families who do not qualify for any type of government assistance. EX: SNAP. Must have ID. This is held mid-month on a Sat, 9AM-12Noon. Call to check for dates. - - 4) FURNITURE MINISTRY: Provides furniture assistance, call and leave a message. - - 5) MANNA HOUSE: Offers a soup kitchen and groceries every Wed, 11:30AM-1PM. Open to anyone in need. - - 6) RAISING OUR CHILDREN'S KIDS SUCCESSFULLY (R.O.C.K.S): Offers a support group for grandparents raising their grandchildren. Services: OVERVIEW: Provides financial assistance and information to adults in need of mental health services. SERVICES: - 1) INFORMATION & REFERRAL: Offers information and referral for mental health resources. - - 2) FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Provides financial assistance for mental health prescriptions or lab tests and emergency assistance on a case by case basis. The person must have a certified mental illness and currently be in treatment. Call for more information. 3) INDEPENDENT HOUSING ASSISTANCE: Assists with security deposits for persons moving out of supervised facilities into their own home or from a homeless situation, on a case by case basis. The person must have a certified mental illness and currently be in treatment. This is only to be used as a last resort. 4) RESPITE CARE: Provides assistance with respite care for families of children/adolescents, up to 17 years old, with severe emotional disturbance. - - 5) GRIEVANCES/APPEALS: Assists with complaints in regard to the publicly funded mental health system. 6) EMPLOYMENT NETWORK: Provides the "Ticket to Work" program for people receiving a SSI or SSDI payments for mental health diagnosis.
Eligibility: Determined on a case by case basis. Most services require the client to have a state certified mental illness and currently be in treatment.
