Services: Barrington Township Office administers General Assistance Programs to township residents which provide ongoing financial and medical assistance to qualifying persons for as long as their need exists. An application can sometimes be expedited if an emergency exists. The Township also offers Emergency Assistance, a separate program providing one time per year assistance to qualifying residents of the Township. Transient Assistance may be available. Food pantry also available to Township residents once per month. Barrington Township includes parts of Barrington, Barrington Hills, Inverness, Hoffman Estates and South Barrington. Rental and utility monies once in a 12 month period.

Eligibility: To qualify for General Assistance, one must not be eligible for any other state or federal assistance program except Medicaid. The applicant is required to be a resident of Barrington Township. Also, there are numerous qualifications involving assets, income, and household composition.

Services: The Salvation Army in Elgin provides financial assistance for utilities and rent when funding is available. Emergency food assistance is available M-F, but main food pantry distribution is held every Friday. Clothing referrals may be given two times a year or once every six months. Client needs a voucher, picture ID, and proof of address. Other programs include the state-wide Nicor Sharing Program for gas utility assistance and a Latino literacy program. Services: The Hanover Township's Elgin Office provides Cook County Elgin residents with easy access to township programs and services *The Welfare Department is on site on Mondays to provide access to local, state and federal welfare programs, including LIHEAP. *On Tuesdays a community health nurse provides health screenings and events. *Tuesday and Wednesday evenings Youth and Family Services provides a therapist to see families *Tuesday evening there is tutoring for children *On Wednesday, senior services staff help with social service needs In addition, Senior activities are offered throughout the week *On Fridays the Assessor is in and anyone can walk in to talk about their tax assessment * Food is available on an emergency basis only during the week for Cook County Elgin residents For specific information on all services and to make appointments, please call the departments directly - see Contacts tab for all numbers Also available: voter registration and notary public Spanish is spoken.

Services: Elgin Township provides General Assistance for those who are ineligible for any other state or federal funding program Eligibility is based on financial need and township residency. They also provide Emergency Assistance for rent to prevent eviction and disconnection of utilities. They provide life sustaining prescriptions such as for diabetes, blood pressure, and heart medications (no assistance for pain or psychotropic prescriptions). They refer for social assistance and provide Voter registration and early voting for Kane County residents Household battery recycling is available as are Notary Public services They also are a member of TRIAD, a community partnership to enhance safety and services to seniors.

Eligibility: Must be an Elgin Township resident. Emergency Assistance: A person must demonstrate the ability to pay their next month's rent when seeking rent assistance. A disconnect status must exist to receive utility assistance (gas, electric, water). Income guidelines apply. General Assistance: Must be a single adult with little or no income.
