Services:
The program provides shelter and housing for homeless, mentally ill adults in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles. Services include long-term transitional shelter and permanent supportive housing. Services are targeted to people who are chronically mentally ill, including people who are undocumented; people who have a dual diagnosis of substance abuse or who have developmental disabilities and mentally ill adults who are HIV postive may also be assisted. The program does not provide service for families or people whose primary problems are homelessness or substance abuse. The primary service area is Los Angeles' Skid Row, but there are no geographic restrictions. The Frank Rice Access Center provides 35 Winter Shelter beds, which runs from December 1 through March 15. Bedding is provided for the single people who participate in the program. Homeless support services are also offered to people who stay at the shelter, including case management and benefits advocacy. The Village transitional shelter program has 70 beds; 58 for men and 12 for women. The sleeping areas are divided into cubicles which contain a bed and closet. The length of stay is up to 90 days, but varies with each individual and is determined on a case-by-case basis. All clients are asked to participate in the program's life skills workshops which help individuals cope with problems and teaches life-management skills. Additional services such as benefits advocacy, case management, health screening, homeless support services, mental health services, recovery services and recreational activities are offered. The program provides a HIV/AIDS outreach program for clients diagnosed as chronically mentally ill who are HIV positive. Subsidized jobs or full-time employment may be available through the LAMP industries program which includes three agency-operated businesses. The agency also administers the Lamp Lodge, an independent living apartment complex with in-house supportive services, for people 18 years and older who have chronic mental illness. People cannot apply directly to Lamp Lodge but must have participated in other aspects of Lamp programs to be eligible. The apartment complex has 50 units. Efficiency rooms with a kitchenette and bathroom are available for single people; one bedroom apartments with kitchens and bathrooms are available for individuals. The complex is located at 660 S. Stanford Ave. in Los Angeles. The agency also provides housing search assistance to homeless individuals and formerly homeless individuals through relationships with various housing providers.

Hours:
Monday through Sunday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Eligibility:
Walk in or telephone for information and to complete an intake for services at the Lamp Community - Frank Rice Access Center site. There is usually a waiting list for overnight shelter and housing programs.
