For Heating Assistance - In addition to the food box requirement - an applicant must have the following documentation for financial assistance:
*Proof of household income for the past two months and current month. Please provide us with your income verification such as Social Security Benefits, unemployment benefits, child support, ect. If you are working , we need to see copies of your pay stubs.
*Receipts of all paid household expenses for the past two months. Examples: utilities, daycare,telephone, cell phone, car repairs life insurance, hospital or doctor, taxes, legal expenses, ect. Grocery and/or transportation receipts are not needed.
*A lease or mortgage agreement in the names of the person(s) applying for assistance or your HUD Contract
Utility Assistance - for assistance, you must provide a past due, disconnection or final notice for your current utility account or a letter from the utility company to verify the amount due. The oldest past due is what we will look at helping with, if funds are available.

Services: The Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) serves individuals and families who are experiencing a heating or cooling related crisis. A household is in a crisis if it is currently experiencing or is in danger of experiencing a life-threatening or health-related emergency and sufficient, timely, and appropriate assistance is not available from any other source. Life-threatening is defined as a household which has no heating or cooling source or has a disconnect notice for their primary heating or cooling service. Current or predicted temperatures can be used to determine if the household is in a crisis situation. Each household is evaluated on a case by case basis to determine if the temperatures would put someone's life in danger if the heating or cooling source was exhausted. The maximum a household can receive in benefits for the fiscal year July through June is $600 in total payments.
Hours: Office Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Funding is provided on an intermittent basis and dispersed on a first come, first serve basis until exhausted.
Eligibility: McDowell County residents; Must provide proof of shut-off from utility company. Agency pays the amount to avoid shut off or return power up to the annual maximum of $600;
Income maximum of 150% of the Federal Poverty Level.
