Services: Jefferson County Community Ministries, Inc., founded in 1983, was organized as area churches found that they could more efficiently assist needy people in the County from one location and by combining funds, recruiting volunteers from their congregations, and requesting donations of food and clothing. They could then insure the availability of resources, reduce unnecessary duplication, and enable a greater stewardship of money and other resources. JCCM, in 2008, assisted over 3900 families with food, clothing, utility assistance, prescription assistance, fuel, gasoline, propane, rent, and other miscellaneous emergency needs. Jefferson County Community Ministries has an office where clients are interviewed and needs are assessed. It has a food pantry that, in 2006, provided 3 days food for more than 1833 families, distributing 160,000 pounds of food. JCCM also has a clothing closet from which approximately 2900 families received free clothing in 2006.
