The Williamsburg AIDS Network provides case management services to individuals infected with HIV/AIDS. Services include medical care coordination, assistance in accessing medications, dental care, transportation, and housing, advocacy and assistance in applying for disability, food stamps, Medicaid, etc. Medicaid AIDS Waiver case management is provided and they also offer housing assistance under Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS. In 2006, 26 individuals received client services. Programs are age appropriate and tailored to meet the needs of the group. WAN regularly offers single-session and multiple-session HIV prevention programs designated by the Centers for Disease Control as Effective Interventions. WAN provides education programs in the local schools, at Colonial Services Board, Avalon Shelter for Domestic Violence, the Merrimac Juvenile Detention Facility, the Salvation Army Transitional Shelter, Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, and at local health fairs. Over 1,000 individuals participate in their education programs each year. WAN provides free, anonymous HIV counseling and testing at the WAN office and at various community sites. WAN uses Home Access HIV test kits for testing purposes. Individuals receive their test results from Home Access within seven - 10 days of testing. People seeking HIV testing are asked to call the WAN office to schedule an appointment. Over 120 people receive HIV counseling and testing through WAN on an annual basis.
