Services: For 28 years, Adopt-A-Family has been dedicated to restoring families in crisis to stability and self-sufficiency by providing access to all-encompassing services to families and children. Adopt-A-Family has six programs targeted to serve families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless with the purpose of restoring families to self-sufficiency. Adopt-A-Family programs are:
Project Uplift assists families at risk of homelessness who need short term (a maximum of 3 months) assistance. Targeting families experiencing situational crisis such as layoff, unemployment, illness or divorce, clients are taught problem-solving skills and how to find solutions bassed on available, identifiable resources. Short term rent and utility expenses are also provided if necessary.
Family Empowerment Program links a family in financial crisis through no fault of their own with an "adopter" (businesses, service clubs, churches and private individuals) who provide financial and emotional assistance for one year.
Project SAFE (stable, able family environment) provides transitional housing (up to 24 months) and support services to homeless families with children. Support services include individual and group counseling, parenting and budgeting classes, daycare assistance and a family action plan.
Service Enriched Housing helps low-income families move into home ownership. A two-year program, it provides credit repair, first time homebuyers classes and support services. This is a residential program where after-rent monies are placed in an escrow account to be used for credit repair, downpayment on a home or closing costs.
Project GROW serves homeless children (ages 5-14) living in transitional housing. The after-school and out-of-school program offers homework assistance, a computer lab, tutoring, arts and crafts, and a summer-camp program when school is not in session.
Homeless Intervention Program (HIP) provides homeless families residing in emergency shelters and transitional housing facilities with resources necessary to move into permanent housing. Eligible families must be housing ready and able to maintain self-sufficiency.
Adopt-A-Family served 1,870 Palm Beach County families in 2003.
