Anyone applying for assistance must have matching name and address on ID and all documentation (ex. ID, social security card, bill, check stubs, SSA/SSI award letters) and proof of regular income.
GENERAL EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:
The main office in Charleston can provide tricounty residents EMERGENCY assistance with:
*fire victims assistance
*rent - not rental deposits.
=CALL 724-6760 Mondays at 1:00pm (When you dial the extension, if the case manager is not available, you will be routed back to the main menu and must re-enter the extensions until someone answers. If you hang up, you may get a busy signal when calling back due to high volume calls.)
HVAC REPAIR/AIR CONDITIONING:

*1 window air conditioning unit
Call your respective county on the respective call-in dates for utility assistance.
*HVAC (central a/c) system repair or replacement

UTILITY ASSISTANCE (LIHEAP):
Provides emergency assistance with utility bills including deposits to establish electric service Must call in on specific day and times to try to get an appointment Appointments will be taken until the appointment log is full. Unable to pay utility bills that are over 90 days old. Also will not pay return check fees.

-(Limited crisis appointments available Monday - Thursday for Charleston county residents only.) Hours: M-F 8:00am-4:30pm. Must have an appointment. Eligibility: To determine eligibility the applicant must provide:
*Proof of emergency within past 30 days.
*social security cards for all members of the household,
*applicant must have photo ID with matching name and address on all documentation
*verification of employment (or unemployment) for all household members 18 years old and over. If an adult student, school photo ID is required,
*if unemployed, a benefits history of employment from employment commission,
*receipts of all utility bills for the past 30 days and a current itemized bill for the assistance is needed with the applicant's name.
*Charleston county only CRISIS appointments:
- Scheduled Monday through Thursday usually booked within first 15-30 minutes of the day
- Must have proof of emergency, i.e. disconnection notice within the next 3-5 days
- Must be at least 60 years of age or older OR disabled OR have a child under 5
