Services: Provides rent payment assistance and/or utility assistance in order to avoid homelessness due to eviction or utility shut-off. Amount given will vary with each case. In most cases assistance will be for no longer than three months.

Eligibility: Serves renters in Lakewood only. For eviction assistance: must have received a court-ordered eviction notice (not a three day notice from the landlord) and have a court date. For utility help: must have received a shut-off notice for a utility (gas or electric) that would prevent them from being able to stay in the home. Those needing utility assistance must first apply for HEAP (if eligible); those who receive assistance through HEAP are not eligible. Must have some type of income (employment, benefits etc.) that will allow resident to continue to make payments once living situation is stabilized.
Documents To Bring: Photo I.D.; proof of residency; proof of number of people living in household; proof of income; utility shut-off notice and/or proof of eviction (eviction notice, landlord letter or eviction court date). Will need to sign a Release of Information Authorization.

Services: Provides temporary emergency financial aid for help with rent payments and utility bill payments. Rent must be at least 30 days past due; utilities covered include electric, natural gas, propane, heating oil, water, and sewer. Payments are generally the amount needed to retain or restore service, although if that amount is large, the payment may not cover entire amount. Funds expire quickly. This is a program of last resort; clients cannot receive ongoing support from this program. Clients can receive rent or utility assistance once per year.

Eligibility: Residents of Holmes, Coshocton, Ashland, and Knox counties, whose rent is 30 days past due or who have a disconnect notice from their utility company. Family income must be less than 125% of the Federal Poverty Limit.
