Services: Desert Manna provides emergency assistance - food, shelter, clothing, gasoline cards, Greyhound bus vouchers, and utilities assistance - to homeless and low-income individuals and families in the Barstow, CA area. Their vision is a time when everyone in their community has a safe place to live and enough food to feed their families. In 2007, they served 13,689 meals to their inside clients and 8,687 meals to the public. They had 8,084 shelter night stays. They provided 1,021 showers to the public. They give free clothing to over 4,000 people a year. 503 families receive federal commodities once a month. They provide over 700 boxes of emergency food a year. They give out $150.00 of gasoline vouchers each month and up to $500 for Greyhound tickets each month. They are beginning a job search service for their inside clients. Services: The program provides emergency food to people in Acton, Green Valley, Lake Elizabeth, Lake Hughes, Lake Los Angeles, Leona Valley, Littlerock, Llano, Palmdale and Pearblossom, including people who are homeless or undocumented. Services include occasional emergency food assistance. The program cannot assist people who receive CalWorks or General Relief. People who are applying for CalFresh or who have a decrease or a delay in their CalFresh allowance may be eligible for assistance with a referral from their DPSS eligibility worker. People may be assisted up to 4 times per year. The agency provides bags of groceries which contain staples, cereal, canned goods and peanut butter. The amount of groceries varies with family size but is enough to last approximately one week.
