Services: ICAP housing services in Brookings County:Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) Program: The Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program aims to help two specific groups - persons who are at great risk of homelessness and those who have become homeless. Services that can be provided include case management, security deposit and rent assistance. These services are aimed at helping participants to retain their housing, therefore avoiding homelessness, or to re-enter appropriate permanent housing as quickly as possible.Housing Repair / Rehabilitation: Provides a zero-interest, five-year decreasing balance loan for eligible homeowners to be used for accessibility modifications for persons with disabilities, in addition to making necessary repairs for health, safety and code compliance.Mutual Self-Help Housing: Group home building project, where participants work together with a construction supervisor to learn the various skills they need in order to construct their homes.Self-Help Housing Rehabilitation: Eligible participants will work with program staff to identify their specific needs and to create a work plan. The Program Coordinator will find the best funding sources available to the homeowners and assist them throughout the process.Weatherization and Furnace Replacement Program: Aimed at making housing for low-income persons more energy-efficient and less costly for the residents. The residence is audited and a list of needs is developed. The program provides the materials and pays contractors for the labor to weatherize the home (caulk cracks, insulate, weather-strip, fix windows, etc.). Furnaces can be repaired or replaced, if not repairable, through the program. In addition, some inefficient/high-cost non-operating appliances (range / refrigerator / water heater) can also be replaced in certain circumstances.

Services: Salvation Army volunteers work with community partners to assist with:Vouchers for hotel staysRent assistanceUtility assistance (water, lights, heating and trash for current, past due, or disconnect notices),GasolineCar needsFood/meal assistance (please utilize other food pantries first; this is a back up/emergency food resource)Long distance bus ticketsAlso, can assist after disaster (ie. house fire, flood, etc)The needs of the individual/family will be assessed, and certain documentation maybe required for for a voucher (ex. driver's license for gas voucher, etc.)During regular business hours Salvation Army vouchers may be available to individuals assisted by the My Neighbor program.After business hours, Salvation Army works with the Brookings County Sheriff to help individuals and families in case of an emergency/immediate need. For example if a hotel room or gas is needed tonight, people can call the dispatch number regarding a voucher. If it is something that can wait until regular office hours, individuals should seek assistance through My Neighbor or other services.
