Services: The 29 Palms Community Food pantry provides non-perishable food items to those who have fallen on temporary "hard times." The food items provide are designed to sustain their neighbors for an average of 2 - 3 days. During the Thanksgiving holiday, they provide monetary assistance to Food For Life an organization that provides a prepared home-cooked meal to those who come to the center. For Christmas, the food pantry provides a complete Christmas dinner for their neighbors which they take home and prepare. Their only program at the present time is to feed the hungry, and provide assistance through the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program in the areas of: rent/mortgage assistance; utility payments and hotel/motel stays when funding is available. Each month they average 125 families from the Morongo Basin (29 Palms, Wonder Valley and Marine Corps Base) who require food assistance. Many who are "senior citizens" because of limited finances, have a choice each month; buy medications and pay their utility bills. Subsequently, they utilize the food pantry.
