Services: The Section 8 voucher and certificate programs are federally funded rental assistance programs administered by public housing authorities (PHAs) or other governmental agencies.
- The program's primary purpose is to provide rental assistance to low income families in need of affordable, decent, safe and sanitary housing. Tenants take the voucher/certificate and use it to rent housing in the private market.
- Families apply for and receive a voucher/certificate with a time-limited life that "stays" with the family. A family is eligible if more than 40% of its income has to be used to pay rent the first year.
- Also offers Home Saver is a counseling and loan program that helps borrowers who were victimized by unfair lending practices.
- It is a proactive step that home owners take before their mortgage becomes unaffordable, and before foreclosure becomes a real possibility. Home Saver includes a mandatory counseling component and a refinancing of your existing loan.
- Service includes section 8 housing choice vouchers.
