Services: PURPOSE: To assist needy individuals and families to meet their basic needs and improve their level of functioning to fulfill their own potential through available social services. SERVICES: Link-up provides low-income individuals a 50% discount, up to $30, off the price of a telephone hook-up; Lifeline provides a discount, up to $11.35 off the local monthly service bill.

Eligibility: Receive SSI, food stamps, Medicaid, housing assistance or Work First Family Assistance benefits and telephone service is in your name.
Documents To Bring: Effective 1/2011, this is a self-certification process for recipients of low income, means tested programs. Applicants/Recipients of Medicaid, Work First, or Food and Nutrition Services must apply for this service directly with their telephone companies. When applying for services, applicants are provided with a form that the customers should complete and mail to their local telephone service providers. If assistance is needed, the customer may request that DSS forward their completed form to the appropriate provider. Discount will start when telephone company receives approved form.

Documents To Bring: All assistance is done in-person at Crisis Assistance office at 500A Spratt Street. Clients are NOT served on a first come first served basis. Clients with the most urgent needs are served first. An emergency can be someone who is facing eviction that day or has already been evicted.
Need to bring the following:
â¢Picture ID for the applying client
â¢Social Security documentation for all household members: social security card, documentation from the Social Security Administration verifying social security number, W2 form from an employer or paystub indicating the nine digit social security number, or W7 if applicable. If you are not registered with the Social Security Administration you are required to provide some form of identification.
â¢Proof of all household income for the past 30 days. Clients who are paid every week are required to present four current paystubs. Clients who are paid bi-weekly are required to present two current paystubs, and clients who are paid monthly are required to bring one current paystub. Clients who receive unemployment, SSI or SSA, VA Pension, Retirement Pension, Child Support, Disability, and/or income from family or friends are required to present a statement of income verification. Clients who are self-employed are required to present income verification.
â¢All disconnection and past due utility statements. These should be in the applying clients name and that person must reside in the household.

Services: PURPOSE: To provide emergency financial aid for rent or utilities, not available from other resources to residents of Mecklenburg County. SERVICES: Emergency financial assistance for rent, or utilities. Within the last 30 days client must have been interviewed or have received a denial notice form about their situation from Crisis Assistance Must have court papers for rent and a disconnect notice for utilities. Clients have to be in the home for 60 days before Good Fellows' Club would help. Good Fellows does not help with any deposits or new moves, unless just coming out of the Women's Shelter or domestic violence circumstances Must be interviewed Only open Tuesdays and Thursdays Must have an appointment which can only be made by calling Tues or Thurs between 10 am and 2 pm Messages left outside of those times will not be returned.

Services: PURPOSE: To provide donated for sale items at minimal cost to people in our community so the proceeds can be used to accomplish the mission of Matthews HELP Center (Emergency Crisis Assistance). Clients of Matthews HELP Center shop free of charge. SERVICES: To bring a sense of community through donated items being used to help fund Emergency Crisis Assistance to people in need who reside in the Matthews community and surrounding areas.

As part of their plan for personal responsibility, an increasing number of clients are assigned a referral agreement to engage them in specific counseling or training resources in the community, that will equip them to avoid recurring crisis.
