Services: The Y’s Child Care Center’s primary purpose is to provide a quality early learning experience in an environment where parents will know their children are safe and nurtured. This child-centered program provides opportunities for growth, hands-on exploration and child-led learning. The Y is an NAEYC Accredited, Keystone Star 4 Center, licensed by the Department of Public Welfare which strives to promote best practices. Care begins at six-weeks of age with nurturing staff and a safe environment. At 12-months and walking, children transition to our toddler room where exploration, social skills and language development are key focus points. As skills develop, older toddlers starting at 24-months, begin to work on toilet training. Older toddlers participate in weekly Animal Yoga. Once potty trained, children participate in weekly swimming lessons. In addition, the York Branch YMCA has two preschool classrooms for children ages three to five. Services: St. Agnes Day Room is located behind St. Agnes Church, on New Street. It was founded to serve the basic needs of the poor and the homeless in the West Chester area. The Day Room continues to provide hospitality to the needy, especially the elderly, migrants, women and children, in a caring and welcoming environment. Our goals are to strengthen families and assist individuals toward personal growth and greater independence, establish ongoing, therapeutic relationships that strengthen the community, and nurture in our clients a sense of appreciation and a desire to help others. Our services include: free breakfast and lunch, groceries, clothing, diapers, baby formula, assistance and referrals, bilingual outreach services, parenting workshops, and outreach to those unable to come to the Day Room. We work with other agencies to provide on-site substance abuse support, employment counseling and training, homeless case management, and assistance for new immigrant families with children.
