Services: Offers financial assistance for families in financial crisis.
1) Emergency Assistance provides short-term assistance for families with a related child under age 18 (or 19 if he/she is a full time high school student) in the household, and in an emergency situation. Funds may help pay for rent, heating costs, electric bills, and other one-time necessary expenses. The assistance must alleviate the emergency Domestic Violence Assistance provides assistance for victims of domestic violence and must meet eligibility requirements. Families must be at or below 200% of poverty to qualify. Funds may help pay for rent, electric bills, car repairs and other necessary expenses. Families receiving WFFA are not eligible.
2)Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) provides for a one-time case payment to help eligible families pay their heating bills. No longer taking applications for 2012 For residents over 60 and/or disabled, February 1st for other eligible households Energy payments will be paid directly to the heating provider such as the Power, Gas, or Fuel Oil Company For households that includes a person who meets at least one of the following criteria: Is age 60 or older, Receives Supplemental Security Income, Receives disability benefits from a governmental agency, Receives disability from the Veterans Administration (VA), Is a disabled surviving spouse or child of a veteran and meet certain criteria, Receives Railroad Retirement and is eligible for Medicare, Receives Medicaid based on disability.
3) CIP funds are administered by the Sharing House.

Services: Provides emergency financial assistance for rent, utilities, heat, and medication, as well as household goods and general assistance for people involved in natural disasters or house fires. No Greyhound bus tickets nor gas vouchers given
*Financial assistance can only be given every 24 months.
*Every client must have proof of household income and all bills, receipts, or canceled checks before they are interviewed This includes assistance with rent, utilities, and local travel (bus tickets) for homeless individuals in shelters with a current referral letter.
*For utilities, the bill must be past due and in the client's name. No deposits or re-connection fees.
*For rent the client will have to obtain W-9 forms from the Salvation Army, have landlord complete them, and bring them to the scheduled appointment. Clients will not be interviewed if forms are not completed. No rent deposits.
*Furniture vouchers only issued to individuals that have been in fire or flood. Documentation must be provided.
*Prescriptions/medication filled only once. Includes blood pressure, heart, and antibiotics only. No pain or psychotropic drugs will be filled. *ART bus vouchers are handed out to anyone in need on the last Friday of the month starting at 9:30 a.m. as supplies last. Needs picture ID and proof they are a Buncombe County resident.
*Intake: By appointment only; For prescription assistance or furniture assistance for households that had a house fire, call during office hours. Calls to make appointments for financial assistance with rent or utilities are taken two Thursdays a month; The next call-in day to get an appointment for financial assistance is October 18th and 25th. On October 18th or 25th call between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and leave your name, Social Security number, what you need assistance with, and a contact phone number; If selected for assistance a worker will return your call within 48 hours to schedule an appointment. Appointments are usually made for the following week unless there is urgent need. If clients are more than 5 minutes late they will have to reschedule their appointment.
