Services: The focus of Community Resources, Inc. is simple: the improvement of the lives of low income people. Its primary goal is twofold: providing services which help the poor obtain basic necessities, and developing means of change to those systems which cause poverty.
In the pursuit of its service goal, Community Resources has a wide range of objectives:
Feeding the hungry, finding shelter for the homeless, clothing the needy, training the unskilled, educating the illiterate, assisting in emergencies, providing counsel to the distressed, and advocating for persons with special needs.
To achieve its goal of development and change, Community Resources' objectives are:
To research, study, and analyze the conditions which affect poverty, to seek and develop plans to improve those conditions, to seek funding and support for its plans, to create liaisons with private and public sectors which will improve the plight of the poor, to pursue opportunities for economic development in this region, especially those which would open doors out of poverty.
It is not an easy task to work for changes even as we work to serve those caught in the cycle of poverty. It is a challenge which we, as an agency, commit ourselves.

Services: The WIC Program, which stands for Women, Infants, Children, is a federal nutrition program that provides free nutrition counseling and education, breastfeeding support, nutritious foods, and access to health care for eligible participants. To qualify for the program, you must be pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum, and/or have children under the age of five (5), and meet the income eligibility requirements. WIC is for all kinds of families: married and single parents, working or not working, foster parents, or legal guardians.
June Rhodes, RDLD, with the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department, is the Program Director for Calhoun, Gilmer, Jackson, Mason, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Wirt, and Wood Counties.

Hope Shop provides inexpensive, used clothing available for a minimal charge or suggested donation. The shop is open to anyone in Wirt and surrounding counties. The food pantry, located in the Hope Shop, is open to Wirt County residents only. A written referral is required from either the CRI office or any local minister. The Helps Ministry serves only Wirt County residents. One must be recommended by the CRI Director or a local minister. Financial assistance is available for prescription drugs, utilities, housing and miscellaneous needs. A person is eligible for assistance only one time in six months. Nursing program is available for any member or attendee of any Wirt County church or any Wirt County resident referred by a community agency.

Services: Currently, Risen Lord Catholic Church is running a Food Pantry every fourth Thursday of every month from 9AM-11AM. Through the Backpack Ministry, the church is also providing weekend food to 105 students at Clay Elementary School. Brown bags are packed every Wednesday.
