Services: The mission of Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank is to feed the hungry in their service area by soliciting marketable food and other grocery products from all sources available to us, and judiciously distributing those goods to the needy through non-profit charities who distribute such goods to the needy at no charge. It is their intention to make all eligible charity agencies in their service area aware of their services and to encourage them to make optimal use of their services; to learn from those charity agencies what they may do to help them to more effectively serve their clients; and to share with them whatever they may have come to understand about how they may more effectively do that. It is their intention to facilitate the development of food distribution capabilities where none now exist so as to assure that no hungry person in their service area lacks reasonable access to needed quantities of donated food; to do whatever they can to see to it that no wholesome food in this service area goes to waste; to develop and nurture relations with whatever food distribution organizations can help us to do that. It is their intention to increase public awareness of hunger, its causes, and its consequences. It is their intention to provide their services always without regard to race, national origin, sex, disability, age, religion, marital status, height, weight, or any other legally protected category, and exclusively for charitable purposes as described in Section 501 (c) (3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. It is their intention to be an active part of the Feeding America National Food Bank Network; to comply with their guidelines; to use Feeding America to keep informed about what other food banks have learned from their efforts; to use the network to share with other food banks whatever they have learned; and to do what they can generally to help other food banks serve their client communities. It is their intention to do all this so efficiently, professionally, and cost-effectively as to become self-sufficient on their product distribution revenues. Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank addresses hunger by addressing food waste, saving good food from senseless destruction so that hungry people might have food to eat. The Food Bank receives surplus or damaged food items as donations or purchases it from wholesale farmers or food processors, which is then distributed to other nonprofits and to the unemployed.
