*MICA's Living With HIV program helps individuals with HIV in Boone, Franklin, Greene, Hardin, Hamilton, Marshall, and Story counties coordinate essential health services. Services include referrals to infectious disease specialists, locating medical and prescription coverage, and referrals to substance abuse and mental health programs. The Living With HIV program, in some circumstances, also helps individuals with living expenses and gasoline vouchers. MICA started the program in 2000.

*Emergency Financial Assistance: may be available to qualified individuals for rent, rent deposits, and utility deposits from United Way funds as well as assistance with past due utility bills from funds contributed by local utility companies.

*Head Start: provides comprehensive early childhood development services to children between the ages of three and five years of age including children with disabilities. Twenty-two classrooms in nine counties ensure kindergarten readiness and development of pre-literacy skills for qualified preschool age children. Transportation, breakfast, and lunch are provided. Parent involvement is a strong component of the program.

*Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program: provides financial assistance for a portion of home heating bills for the winter months, emergency fuel deliveries, and assistance with furnace repairs or replacement. Qualified applicants may be eligible for Weatherization services in order to reduce the cost of energy consumption in their homes.

*Self-Sufficiency Development: FaDSS and Community Partners provide support through a home visiting process to assist families moving from welfare to work as well as to work with families coping with multiple challenges to self-sufficiency including financial crises or financial management.

*Community Partners is a collaborative program with Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa that enhances self-sufficiency development services to individuals and families experiencing financial challenges. It is a self-help program for individuals and families in north central Iowa who are experiencing challenges or a crisis. Community Partners works with the individual/family to deal with change, deal with conflict, and reach their potential. A family development specialist individualizes the program for each family to meet their specific needs.

*The North Iowa Community Action Outreach program at the Family Resource Center is for Cerro Gordo and Worth counties. The outreach program provides information and referral services and access to emergency financial assistance for shelter and utilities. The United Way of North Central Iowa allocates funding for Emergency Shelter Assistance, Utility Deposits, GED, and Educational Scholarships. A variety of other applications can be completed at the Family Resource Center depending on the availability of funds.
