Shields Township has expanded its presence in North Chicago and is accepting applications for General Assistance from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the first and third Monday of each month at the North Chicago Public Library, 2100 Argonne Drive.

General Assistance provides eligible residents with financial assistance to help pay for shelter, utilities, medical services and transportation. The township boundary begins at 18th Street in North Chicago and extends to Lake Forest.

Walk-ins are welcome on the first Monday of every month. Every third Monday, appointments are required. To schedule an appointment, call 847-234-0802.
